Don't pick your brain in public.

 Well, I haven't posted in a while ... So thought I'd update. I've been living here on the Mountain with Steven for 2 months now. Things are good, although stagnant might be a better word. The initial "newness" has worn off, regretably, and we have settled into a rather quiet and complacent existence: We work all day, come home, do yard work or laundry, maybe drink a bit or smoke, read National Geographic, and fall asleep at 10 PM. 

My new job is overwhelming, but it can only get better with time. Spent all day today working on the new library with 20+ parent and teacher volunteers. We got a great deal of furniture and boxes of books moved, and also got one long wall primed for painting. Steven was exhausted, so he went to bed. I pulled weeds in the yard until I found icky dead buggies that made my skin crawl. Decided it was time to go back inside and drink a Sweetwater Georgia Brown.

The first day of school is next Tuesday. Kind of nervous ... My principal wants to sit in on some of my classes that day. I'm not used to working with K-5 kids - Much less Title I (poor) minority students. It may be bad, but the first week I am teaching all my classes the proper way to pronounce "library" and "librarian" (Most currently say "liberry"). Will also list Ms. Lindsay's Library Rules. Still working on that one, though.

Well, I am bored as hell. I can either clean and do laundry, or have another beer and read National Geographic. Think I'll go with the latter. 

More to come; hopefully in a better mood.

... that I am on pins and needles waiting for the Phil Spector verdict? Could it be because I've followed the trial and have listened to Court TV Radio religiously since the whole charade began? Or is it because I'm damn tired of Hollywood celebs getting away with murder? They've been deliberating a week and still no word. 

Oh well. At least I'll have another OJ media-circus trial to look forward to. 

On a sidenote, I took home a discarded LSAT study guide book and have been prepping myself for Law School. Not sure how feasible my dream is at the moment, but dammit, I will get my JD.

New Kids on the Block! Joey was sooo hot.

My blood pressure is spiking lately. Self-inflicted stress, I suppose. The only place I am able to meditate is the tanning bed. I'm heading there in a few minutes to try and unwind from this whirlpool of angst and isolation I've plunged into.

My parents are worried because I don't speak unless necessary and my eyes are two sunken craters, void of that spark of vitality. I come home and sleep; wake up way too early and get pissy when there's no coffee.

Even my sweet little critters are starting to piss me off too much. I lock them out because all they want to seem to do is bite and scratch and shit on the carpet. I need a miracle.

There's a clock ticking in my head and its incessant syncopation mocks my irregular heart murmurs.

Off the clock and time to go clear the head.

A co-worker lent me a CD called "Might as Well ... The Persuasions Sing the Grateful Dead." It's an a capella gospel group (4 soulful black guys) singing the hell out of "Ripple" and "He's Gone." But it was while listening to "Sugaree" that I nearly fell out of my rolly chair laughing:

"There's just one thing I AXE of you, Just one thing for me ..."

It wouldn't be nearly so funny if I hadn't lived in Alabama for 2 years.

My new little man (see userpic) is a purebred traditional Siamese (aka, Applehead Siamese). I know this because he has gray balls. They're really cute in a silly sort of way, but he is to be neutered and declawed in 3 days.

My mom asked me today if we can just do the declawing and skip the neutering. That is being a very irresponsible pet owner, and it would really piss Bob Barker off. I think Mom likes Mr. Gray Balls just as much as Prince Hairy Balls. And no, I have no idea why all my cats end up being named according to their scrotal qualities. Weirdness.

I'm finding myself developing a little teenage-crush on Bobby.

I snapped this picture of Gretchy-Poo over the weekend. She had just been told to be nicer to Li'l Kitty, and her feelings were hurt.

Look at the baby kitten Mom dropped in my lap Friday afternoon. He doesn't have a name yet, but he is the sweetest little man ever.

How come all my co-workers immediately assume I created it? Oh, wait ... Because half of my office was used in its making =).

Yesterday rocked because I got to go to the Disneyworld of Atlanta - IKEA! I hardly slept the night before because all I could think about were the hot cinnamon buns, Swedish coffee, and "As Is" furniture graveyard! Here's a breakdown of what I found for my new office:

- 2 navy/sky blue/chocolate striped rugs for $2.99 (my theme will be in these colors)

- Some kind of really groovy purple and neon green spiky plant ($1.99) and ceramic green pot (99 cents) that I hope will grow now that I'll have a window

- A strange multi-circled macrame hanger ... You can put it in your closet and tie scarves or hang belts from it, but I have other plans (not sure what yet, but something fun and creative)

- Almond-Cinnamon Swedish cookies (yummy with lemon curd spread on top!)

- A black-and-cream fleece blanket/cape that comes with arm holes (too hot to lounge around in now, but come winter I might just live in it) - marked down from $19.99 to $7.99

There was a bunch more, but I can't remember it all now. Is it sad I get so excited about IKEA?

The ALA (American Library Association) finally awarded my school accredidation today! This means that I can get a job outside of Georgia, if choose to. It will also mean that by this time next year I'll be a Real Librarian with full shushing powers!
